Over the Bighorns 2015

 Cruz Over the Bighorns

8-16-15

Club members gathered at 360 Office Supplies on the breezy & cool 58 deg. Sunday morning. We exited the lot at about 8:40 with five Vettes and a full load of ten Pilots & copilots and proceeded across I-90 to the frontage road then over Duck Creek Bridge and along the river road to Laurel where we meet up with three more people in two Vettes, all former club members, & prospective new members and friends of members Tim & Cynthia Hert.

We headed up Hwy 310 (the new pavement and intersection at Fortrockvale is VERY NICE!) to meet up with Dean Anderson from Cody at Deaver Wy. We made a pit stop at the rest area before Bridger to relieve some coffee pressure and then on we pushed on.

At Greybull we stopped again for a break, where the two verts tops went down and some coupe roofs were stowed. From there it was on to Hwy 14 through Shell and up the mountain through Shell Canyon. The road is in very nice shape and some spirited driving ensued on the tight turns until traffic dictated otherwise.

We pulled in at Shell Falls Visitors Center for a break and to take in the views before continuing up 14 to Elk View Lodge where we had lunch. We had called ahead to warn them we would be showing up with 14 people, which they very much appreciated! Lunch was served quickly and soon we were on the road again to 14A and to the Bighorn Basin Overlook for another break and conversation while taking in the smoke limited view, as the many wild fires mostly in western Montana, Washington, Oregon, northern California and B.C. have filled our skies with smoke.

After a nice long stop at the overlook four cars broke off and continued down 14A to Lovell and home while the other four cars and passengers backtracked to 14 and down to Dayton where we stopped for ICE CREAM!

We continued on following the frontage road to Lodge Grass where we picked up I-90 and on home, for a total of about 375 miles.
