Harlowton                            Milwaukee Depot Museum/Upper Musselshell Museum

The Harlowton Milwaukee Depot Museum was built in 1908, it was a "Standard Class A Passenger Station", one of several standardized depot plans used by the Milwaukee Road. The passenger Service was discontinued in 1961, and the depot and yards were abandoned by the Milwaukee in 1980. The depot was restored as a Milwaukee and Railroad museum and is opened to the public for their enjoyment.

Exploring the two Upper Musselshell Museum buildings is like prowling around in someone's attic or barn. Be careful, though. You may run into a full-size replica of a dinosaur skeleton found in nearby Shawmut or a horse drawn hearse with a special passenger! There are also several collections of fossils and bones, a 2000-year-old buffalo skull and a new Plains Indian exhibit complete with arrowheads, clothing, artifacts, weapons and story boards to explain it all.

The two-story sandstone buildings, constructed prior to 1909, are filled with treasures that belonged to the people who lived in, worked, and developed the Upper Musselshell River country.
